QR code for a restaurant menu

Menus change with seasons, prices and suppliers, but table tents get printed once. A menu QR code should outlive every one of those changes. Point a dynamic Kizmo code at your menu page or PDF and you can change where it goes at any time, without reprinting a single card.

Bare domains are written in capitals inside the code, which makes it smaller. Paths keep their case.

Enter the web address the code should open.

We recommend a dynamic code for this

Change the destination after printing, see scans by placement, and get an alert if the code gets covered. It keeps working even if you stop paying.

How to set it up

  1. 1

Put your menu online: a page on your website, a PDF link, or your ordering platform.

  2. 2

Paste the link into the generator and create a dynamic code if you expect to change it.

  3. 3

Add the table number as the placement so scans and tamper alerts tell you exactly which table.

  4. 4

Download the PDF at 30 mm or larger and print one per table.

  5. 5

Scan every printed card with two different phones before you put them out.

Recommended size

30-40 mm wide on table tents, 60 mm or more on windows and posters read from a distance.

What works

  • Print the short fallback address under the code (for example kizmo.io/q/K7Q-2MX) so guests without a camera app can still type it.
  • Use a matte finish. Glossy laminate reflects overhead lights straight into the camera.
  • Link to a page that loads fast on mobile data. A 12 MB PDF on café Wi-Fi loses guests.
  • Keep a printed menu for anyone who asks. Some guests cannot or will not use their phone.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Using a 'free' dynamic code from a trial. When the trial ends, every table stops working at once.
  • Placing the code where a scammer can paste a sticker over it without staff noticing.
  • Linking to a menu that requires an app download or an account.

Do menu QR codes expire?

A static QR code never expires because the link is stored in the pattern itself. Dynamic codes depend on the company hosting the redirect. Kizmo's dynamic codes keep redirecting even if you stop paying.

Can I change the menu without reprinting?

Yes, if you use a dynamic code. You change the destination in your dashboard and every printed code follows. A static code always opens the exact link it was made with.

How big should a table QR code be?

About 30 mm wide works for a guest seated at the table. A good rule of thumb is that a code can be scanned from about ten times its width.
